The commercial apple crop for Virginia at present looks good though there is a decline from the previous year. An estimated 460 million pounds of apples will be harvested in the Old Dominion in 1972. This compares with 480 million pounds last year.
Pollinating conditions wwere not as favorable as a year earlier and the crop is more lightly and unevenly set. The crop has sized well and spray programs have generally worked well according to the Virginia Crop Reporting Service.
Yellow Transparents are harvested in July and the Rambo harvest will begin in early August.
