A case that comes to mind involved a heated debate some years back in the South Carolina General Assembly. Up for action was a piece of proposed legislation designed to lessen the chances of rabid dogs running amok, and of dealing with rabid dogs if all preventive measures failed.
One legislator from a rural district listened to this as long as he could stand it, and then rose to express his confusion: “I don’t understand why all you fellas want to get rid of all our rabbit dogs.”
