HAZE ON THE FAR horizon, an infinite tender sky, The ripe, rich tints of the corn fields and wild geese flying high, And all over upland and lowland the charm of the goldenrod - Some call it autumn, others call it God.” SOME WILL SAY: “Aw, it is just that season of the year, juSt nature making her annual round.” There are some who can hold the universe in the palm of the hand and see eternity in a grain of sand. They can see God pass in the waving grass, hear Him in the songs of birds and babbling brooks; He speaks to them everywhere. To some of us autumn represents the eventime of life. We sit beside the fireside as the days grow short and cool and think of passed years. The family circle has been broken. Has it been worthwhile, have -we done enough good to outweigh the bad, are we due advancement in the after life because of that good? There are so many thoughts that come into our minds as we sit and ponder. How about “the old loves, jthe gold loves, the loves that would not stay; but remain in the heart always?” There have been disappointments, unattained goals, but, I am glad God permitted me to live this life. This peom by Evelyn Hunt seems fitting at this time, the title is Golden Years. “My love had loved me through the summer dawn While sunshine spilled its brightness on the 9 hill Like champagne sparkling. We had been content
To feast on cakes and honey; had our fill. And I had wondered: When the sweets are gone, The golden bubbles quieted, the hill Subdued and gray with fog, the summer spent— I wondered if my love would love me still. Forgive me if a grateful tear should fall. In autumn, love is loveliest of all.” □
