Long term genetic studies are revealing the extent to which conformation and rate of growth in cattle are determined by heredity, Priode said. “Emphasis is on how much cattle can be improved by selecting stock with certain desirable traits for breeding. Findings have influence on the quantity, quality and price of beef produced in the future.

One exhibit will demonstrate the differnce in the 1872 and 1972 rations on twin calves. Other exhibits will feature two-performance-tested bulls from 1970 and 1971 calf crops to illustrate progress in shorthorn selection lines.

FIELD DAY tour stops will begin at 10 a.m. and will include reports on the feeding of antibiotics to cows for calf scours control and planned pinkeye research.
