AMA indicated an interest in Virginia, and their credentials were forwarded to the Virginia Council on Health and Medical Care.
The Council administers the Physician Referral Service in the Commonwealth with the cooperation of the AMA, The Medical Society of Virginia, the two medical schools, the Virginia State Department of Health, and the Virginia State Board of Medical Examiners. The Council’s office serves as a clearinghouse for places in need of physicians, and for physicians who are looking for places to practice.

ANOTHER indication of Virginia’s desirability as a place to practice was reflected in the flood of requests received at the | Council’s office during August. According to Edgar J. Fisher, Jr., director of the Virginia Council, 99 physicians requested placement information. The average for August is usually 30 to 40.
