Frank Loucks Hereford Jr. an international lyknown physicist and longtime teacher and administrator at the University of Virginia, has been elected fifth President of the University.
Dr. Hereford, 50, who holds a bachelor’s degree and doctorate from the University, succeeds Dr. Edgar F. Shannon Jr. President Shannon had announced on February 2 that he wished to return to fulltime teaching at the end of August 1974, after holding office 15 years.
Dr. Hereford’s election was made last week at a special meeting of the University’s
