MAJOR JOHN E. THOMPSON, son of Mangus L. Thompson, R.F.D. 1, Amissville, has completed' weapons systems officer training at Luke AFB, Ariz., in the F-4 Phantom fighter-bomber. Major Thompson, a qualified navigator, received specialized training in all phases of Phantom operation and weapons delivery. During the six-month course, Major Thompson completed 65 flying hours and 249 hours of academic and ground training.
The major served at Plattsburgh AFB, N.Y., before arriving at Luke. He graduated in 1953 from Ceres (Va.) High School and earned his 'B.S. degree in animal husbandry in 1958 from Virginia Poly-7 technic Institute where he was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
The major’s wife, Phyllis, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl S. Umberger, 2 Kennedy Drive, Portsmouth. □
