RLEP wants the road kept open for the “enjoyment of scenic vistas, flora, fauna, hiking and riding trails.” Davis had suggested that RLEP should emphasize that the road needed to be kept open for fire protection, not just recreation.
THE Supervisors concurred with Davis and didn’t sign the resolution. But they also made it clear that they saw all fire roads within Rappahannock County as public rights-of-way. Since that meeting, Davis has researched the Mount Marshall Fire Road. There is a 1921 map showing it as a county road. There is no record of it being abandoned.
“This requirs no action by the Board of Supervisors,” Davis said. Mount I Marshall Fire Road is simply a public right-of-way.”
