Mrs. Holmes
A funeral service for Mrs. Mildred C. Holmes of Elizabeth, N. J., formerly of Smedley, Rappahannock County, was held Sunday at the Promised Land Baptist Church, the Rev. Ausberry conducting the service. Burial was in the Grigsby family cemetery.
Her death occurred on February 12, 1974 at her residence, where she ha<j lived since moving from Rappahannock County. She was the widow of Richard 0. Holmes and the daughter of the late Robert Beckwith and Alice Grigsby of the Smedley area.
She was 92, the last of the family of nine children. She is survived by a daughter Mabel C. Holmes of Elizabeth and two sons, Robert E. Holmes of Edison, N. J. and Richard L. Holmes of Roselle, N. J., seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was an active worker in her church, a member of Ruth Society and a member of the Missionary Society. She was founder of a child welfare center and of a recreational center.
