VALENTINE DAY HAS COME and gone and I got nary a one. Well, I did get one, a verbal one that I didn’t enjoy wery much. Wish I had gotten just one; maybe next year. Wasatatonsorialparlor the other day. The hair stylist told me that I had a short neck. I wanted to tell him that I was glad it reached up to my head, but I didn’t want to antagonize a person with a razor in his hand.

We celebrated the birthday of the Father of His Country five days prematurely. Long weekend—ha! Why couldn’t we have waited until the correct date, and a long weekend, too? “What fools these mortals be!’’

A local writer wrote an article scoring the conservatives and the liberals. I heartily concur with this writer. If one spends his time trying to please everyone, he will find that he has pleased no one, himself included. If I may say so, give ’em what Hairy Harry gave them, friend.

The remark was made recently that I was about ready to be put on the shelf. One person was kind enough to disagree. Thanks, pal. There is a couplet (I believe it is called) (“It’s all right to tell a man he’s charmless.

But NEVER tell him that he’s harmless.”

Guess some of us are sensitive to some degree. I feel very deeply about some things, not necessarily about my lack of charmorthatl’mharmless, I think.

Heard a very lovely lady discussing her views on politics. She advocated short terms for elected officials. She seemed to think that this would eliminate the back scratching and other political ills. It might be that if there was no graft we might find statesmen that would serve their country for the pleasure of serving. Or is that the impossible dream? The Book says to obey the law. Don’t you think we could find wiser men to make the laws for our guidance, laws we, as individuals and as a nation, would be happier to obey?Q
