SOUTHEASTERN cattle producers received sharply higher prices during the week ending March 15,. US DA’s Agricultural Marketing Service reports. The substantial gains ended several weeks of sliding prices.

On the other hand, cotton prices plummeted. Southeastern markets reflected a $26 a bale loss from the previous week. Hog prices were also sharply lower. IntheGeorgia'FloridaAlabama areas drops of $4.50 to $6 were registered. North Georgia direct area posted declines of $2.50 to $4.

Soybean prices for the second consecutive week ranged higher. At the producer level, prices were mostly 13 to 15 cents over a week ago. Corn prices were mostly steady.

The broiler market was steadier and light type hens were fully steady. Heavy hens were very unsettled to slightly weak and eggs were unsettled and weak.

Eastern District Firecured tobacco sales were record high this season. With the final sale, an increase of $15.64 cents per hundred pounds were noted.

Most fruit and vegetables brought lower prices.
