to 5 cents lower with $6.301/2 to $6.34-1/2; Norfolk was 13-1/2 to 15-1/2 cents higher at $6.50 - 1/2 to $6.51 - 1/2. Gulf soybean export bids were steady to 4 cents lower at $6.30 to $6.40.
LIVESTOCK -- Southeastern feeder cattle and calf prices advanced sharply during the week ended March 15. Shipping orders expanded broadly for the first time in almost four weeks and priprice stimulating factors were: reduced marketings over the area, advances on live slaughter cattle and some strength in the carcass trade around the country.
At southeastern markets, feeder steers sold $2 to $4 higher, heifers $1 to $3 up, steer calves $3 to $6 higher and heifer calves unevenly $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter cattle prices closed $1.50 to $2 higher and carcass beef sold strong to $1 higher.
In representative sales around the Southeast, Choice 200 to 300 pound steer calves sold at $52 to $62; 300 to 400 pounds $47 to $57; 400 to 500 pounds $43 to $50 and 500 pound steers $40 to $47. Choice 200 to 300 pound heifer calves brought $46 to $56; 300 to 400 pounds $43 to $51; 400 to 500 pounds $39 to $46 and 500 to 600 pound heifers $37 to $42.50.
