In reply to a question from Supervisor Pete Luke, Mrs. Buntin said that the bank is paid $25 a month and up to 75 cents “per coupon issuance” for handling the stamps. There could be 90 to 100 “issuances” a month, she said. In Madison, Mrs. Buntin reported, the value of stamps handled amounted to $12,864 in October. This means the issuing agency took in some $5,500 in cash and issued almost $13,000 in coupons; 456 persons or 145 cases were involved.
MRS. BUNTIN THOUGHT Rappahannock’s figures would be lower, since the county’s population is lower than Madison’s. (Madison has some 8,000 persons; Rappahannock, by the last census, has 5,200.)
To a question from Supervisor Luke, Mrs. Buntin said the Stamp program would cost about $15,000 a year in Rappahannock, of which $3,000 would be the local share. The bank would be paid about $125 to $150 a month for handling the stamps, and the only new equipment that will have to be purchased is an calculating machine that will multiply.G
