“I’ve checked on what Culpeper and Warren counties do and how the job of building inspector in Rappahannock would compare,’’ Baumgradner said. “Comparing the number of building permits and to the dollar magnitude, I think we would need a building inspector just two days a week, instead of five.”
Baumgardner added that he thought the building inspector should be “on call and paid hourly, not work just two set days each week. “That way, the contractors wouldn’t have to hold up construction waiting for an inspection,” he said.
“The inspector makes three visits to a house,” Baumgardner explained. “He goes when they’re laying in the footings, mainly to check on how its been sited on the lot, comparing with zoning requirements.
