“This could mean that Rappahannock’s library will no longer be a functioning public facility,” Mrs. Jamieson said. “In that case, county residents will have to drive a round trip of at least 50 miles to get a book. The Culpeper library has told us that they have an increasing demand for library materials within Culpeper County. So if our school students need research materials they will have to wait, Culpeper must be served first.”

“We have tried to staff the library with volunteer help. I expect’nearly everyone in this room has been asked,”-Mrs. Jamieson said. “But people just don’t have as much time as they used to. It seems every woman has less time after her children grow up than she did when they were young.”

Mrs. Jamieson said that the Library Board was asking the county for an increase of approximately $2,000 over last year’s donation. However, the Supervisors agreed to appropriate only the amount they had last year.

THE REV. Ronald Wiley spoke on behalf of Chapter 10 of mental health program. The Supervisors had said earlier that they would raise the $1500 donation made by the county to Chapter 10 by only $500.

“When we got into this thing, we thought that it would help retarded children,” Luke said. “But now it appears that it’s become an umbrella for alcoholics. I agree that it’s a mental health problem and it’s good to have the program. But I don’t know that the cure rate, as it effects us, is worth the money. We’d like to give more but you realize we have a $1.8 million budget against some of the other member counties that have more. Maybe we’ll sit back and see how it gets moving to see how much it’ll benefit us.”
