THE LEE BROTHERS don’t “dip” their sheep anymore, and Tom Lee said he didn’t know many people who did. “Just not much sheep scab around. We used to dipused PHC and DDT for a while—but we haven’t done it in years. A big problem with sheep is keeping their feet trimmed. But if you run them in a field with a lot of rock, it’ll almost do it for you.” Keeping the feet trimmed is one step in preventing foot rot.
Shearing is done only once a year, in May. “We have a fellow that works here with us that can do it. But even then, it costs right smart to get the wool off. What you get for it will hardly pay forgetting it off and drenching.”
