But he and his brother have more, ‘‘And we just let ‘em run in the orchards too.” Grazing the grass down to ground level is one reason why worms are such a problem with sheep.
The Lees’ flock includes ‘‘some Suffolks, some Southdowns, some Hampshires'.” He often uses Dorset rams. ‘‘If you cross ‘em up they do better anyway. And the Dorset has a smaller head.” Tom Lee and brother have also added some ‘‘Western” ewes to the flock. ‘‘They’re wild, like deer. But their lambs are active, able to get up sooner, after they’re born.”
The sheep market has changed since Lee first went into business. ‘‘Used to be you’d go to market with something weighing as little as 50 pounds. But more recently it was around 90. Now they’ve raised the weight limit to 125 pounds.” Lambs born during the
