COLONEL E.P. LUKE of Sperryville, Supervisor for Piedmont District and chairman of Rappahannock’s Board of Supervisors, has announced he will not be a candidate for re-election. Luke said he does not have any kind of public statement to make on the reasons for his resignation.

Luke currently serves as the Supervisors’ representative on the county Planning Commission and the Rappahannock-Rapidan District Planning Commission and as chairman of the county’s Trash Committee. He said he plans to ask the Supervisors at their next meeting to appoint someone else to these posts.

Luke said he will continue to serve as chairman of the Board of Supervisors during deliberations over the county budget but once the budget is adopted he will resign the chairmanship and serve only as Supervisor from Piedmont District, until the end of his term.

Luke was appointed as a Supervisor in the summer of 1973 to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Betty Coates. He was unopposed in the general election following his appointment. □
