This lovely land of rolling hills, cultivated fields, fenced pasture and scattered farms,, connecting a series of wellestablished small towns—some rich in history, some not; some interesting architecturally, some not; almost everyone comfortable and livable—would be transformed into something entirely different by those in favor of “progress.” In one, all those fields and pastures would be criss-crossed by houses and shopping centers, connected by four-lane superhighways, knitted together by high-powered tension lines, sprinkled with sewage treatment plants, and animated by constantly moving vehicles.
The more enlightened advocates of “progress” would do all they could to “plan” all this, putting up attractive facades and keeping billboards and neon signs to a minimum, putting power lines underground, wherever possible.
