teaching and obtained some credits through television courses on Saturdays. The TV classes were fun, she said, and at their conclusion she went to American University in D.C. for the examinations which gave her the credits at Madison College toward her degree in elementary education. She finally received her degree in 1964.
MISS ELSIE was born in Flint Hill, then her family moved several times for her father worked with a sawmill. This required moving to follow the jobs.
Most of her early schooling was acquired in Warren County and she graduated from that high school in a class of 47 members. One of her high school teachers was Q.D. Gasque, who eventually became her top level administrator, Superintendent of the RappahannockWarren school system.
