This loblolly pine plantation is only 15 years old. It is in the process of typing thinned. The trees being removed are large enough to be of merchantable size to be sold for pulpwood. Approximately 6-standard cords of pulpwood is being harvested per acre. This thinning process will benefit the remaining trees allowing them to continue a good growth rate and develop into larger forest products in a shorter period of time. A second thinning win be possible in 6 to 8 years. Over 20 different species of forest and wildlife seedlings are available to Virginia landowners from the Virginia Division of Forestry nurseries.
