SHE DIED a little after six o’clock in the evening on Sunday, March 15, 1976. The day before she spent mostly laying down but on Sunday she took a long walk. She was very weak but went to the top of a knoll from which she eould see the other horses in pasture. All of them had been together at the Old Kennels for many years.
After she took a last look at the hilly pastures where she brought up Known Royal, taught her to gallop and watched her frolick, she turned around and with slow, unsteady but determined steps returned to the stable for the last time.
She hadn’t eaten her food for three weeks but she would nibble a little grass and eat some apples. Now there was no strength left to do even that. The foal which was due in a month was dead by then. Though she was as courageous in her fight for life as she was in her racing years, the verdict went against her. She will be remembered in her Rappahannock and where ever horses race over obstacles for a long time.D
