The Royal Couple was honored at an elaborate feast hosted by Governor Godwin for some 200 guests in the magnificent Rotunda of the “academical village” designed and founded by Jefferson on 1819. After lunch, some 5,000 more wellwishers, including the Virginia Bicentennial Band and the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, greeted the Queen at the Western Virginia Bicentennial Center.
