Deer travels
Virginia researchers have recently informed the Wildlife Society that during the first year of life deer are really stay-athomes, rarely going more than 0.8 km (o.5 mile) from the center of activity. After that most of the bucks and many of the does more than double their travel distance. The Virginia researchers also told the group that doe movements were greatest at about one year of age during break-up of family groups and when dropping the first fawn at about two years of age.
