THE Rappahannock County School Board has reviewed and reaffirmed its general conduct and dress policy for the upper elementary and high school grades. The guidelines for the policy were prepared with the assistance of teachers, pupils and administrators and with legal advice.
The primary objective, as stated in the policy, is the concern for health and safety and the avoidance of distractions which may interfere with the orderly operation of the schools and the learning process.
The general conduct policy is as follows:
1. Each student is expected to act in a manner which will reflect credit on himself, on his parents, and on his school.
2. No student will take any action which endangers another person, or which disrupts or disturbs a school activity or class.
3. A student whose actions at any school - related activity, whether in his school or another, serves to discredit the school and its students, will be subject to disciplinary action.
4. Each student is expected to learn what the expectations of his school are relative to good sportsmanship and to practice these precepts in all his school-related activities. Failure to do this may result in the loss of participant and/or spectator privileges.
5. Virginia State Law forbids the possession, use or sale of alcohol or drugs on school property. Students will not be permitted to participate in or to attend any class or school activity (at home or away) while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Individual cases will be handled in accordance with established school board policy and in accordance with Virginia Law.
6. In the interest of good taste and common sense, public display of affection will not be permitted on school property at any time.
