“Have you hugged your kid today?” You may have seen this on a bumper sticker being distributed by the Mental Health Clinic. This is a reminder that children need love and acceptance expressed to them in ways they can understand. Hugging your child may or may not be your way of showing affection. If it is not, taking the time to actually “listen” to what your child is saying to you can be just as effective as a hug. Playing a game, reading a book even if the child can read himself, or taking a walk with your child will let him know you are interested in him. Spending time alone with each of your children each day will let them know they are special.
