JOHN N. DALTON

Dalton: “I feel Mr. Howell is about as liberal as any politician who has ever offered for public office in Virginia on many issues. I don’t know that I have ever referred to him as a radical, but I do think he is way out of step with the mainstream of Virginia thinking.”

Q.: “Is busing going to be an issue in this campaign?”

Basing Not An Issae

Dalton: “Not in the Dalton campaign. We do not intend to make any speeches on busing. To the best of my knowledge Mr. Howell is not in favor of buisng. I am aware of the statement he made over WTOP several years ago. I have understood he has said since then that he is not in favor of busing at this time, and I take him for his word. It may be that you could refer to that as flip-flop but we do not intend to be alleging the campaign that Mr. Howell is in favor of busing and we do not have any ads being prepared, as far as I know, that have anything to do with alleging any busing in this campaign.”
