During his campaign, Coleman has often talked of changing the method through which judges are selected in the state.
Rather than having the majority, caucus of the General Assembly do the selecting, Coleman said he would like to see the establishment of an independent judicial selection committee made up of three lawyers, three non-lawyers and one judge. The members of the panel, he said, would be selected on a non-partisan basis. “I want to cut politics out of the selection. We get good judges now despite the system rather than because of it,” Coleman said.
