The staff returns their boss’ warm feelings. “The atmosphere here is real nice." said Carol Lenardson. "The St. Clairs are terrific down-to-earth people to work for. They don't pressure you for anything.” she added.
Country Cooking
The Black Kettle’s menu isn't fancy but if the offerings are regular, so are the prices. At the breakfast bar. a hungry customer can fill up on eggs, toast, pancakes, sausage and hot coffee. The most expensive item served to early morning eaters is two eggs with ham for $2.25.
Lunch features homemade soups and chili, sandwiches, fries, salad, coleslaw and a couple of dinner entrees with vegetables. Paul noted that his. bar-b-que sauce is made from a special North Carolina recipe.
The piece de resistance at dinner is steamship round of beef but the menu also includes steak and seafood, sandwiches and soups. "It's just country cooking, nothing fancy." Paul remarked.
If the business does well, the St. Clairs eventually plan to apply for a liquor license and offer musical entertainment. Judging from the responses of the folks who've tried Paul's plain old country cooking, it's a sure bet. The ABC Board had better get the stamp of approval ready and the. musicians just might as well start warming up their instruments.
