At this joyous season of the year, it is fitting that we of the press bestow gifts upon those in public life about whom we have been writing during the year past.
Thus, wrapped in ribbons and tinsel and buttons and bows. and decked in mistletow and holly, we dispatch the following to selected public servants.
To Gov. Dalton: A brand new county, totally deserted, where he can locate his radioactive waste disposal facility without all hell breaking loose.
To Lt. Gov. Chuck Robb: A year's supply of periods (...) for use at the end of sentences during news conferences and interviews.
To Atty. Gen. Marshall Coleman: His choice of three conservative issues which will make the Byrd Republicans happy, and still not make him sound like an Episcopalian Ayatollah.
To retiring speaker John Warren Cooke: A tall, tall flagpole up which he may run his gubernatorial flag to see who salutes.
To Speaker-elect A. L. Philpott: A night on the town with Midge Costanza
