Wakefield second grader Matthew Harcourt Lynn, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lynn of Washington (Va.). won first place with his shori story entit'-d "The Little Christmas Tree That Nobody Wanted” in a holiday creative writing contest sponsored by the Samuel's Library of Front Royal for area students in grades 1-7.
Wakefield students won over half of all the awards given in the contest which attracted hundreds of entries from six local schools. Other Wakefield prize winners included: Tara Welty. Nancy Massie. Susannah McClellan. Raul Hurtling. Sarah Walsworth. Morgan Andreae and Lisa Larimer.
