2, 1971, it was reported that several accidents occured on Thanksgiving eve, the result of 6 to 14 inches of snow.
The varsity basketball team beginning the 1971 season at Rappahannock County High School was composed of Lorenzo Fletcher, Bobby Smoot, Steve Leake, Bill Settle, Ronnie Myers, Carol Settle, Bill Kilby, Harry Jordan, Cliff Frye, Lawrence Turner, Tom Wiginton and Ernest Dennis. The coach that year was Carter Ellis.
On the front page was a picture of S.W. Varner and an article about this interesting eighty-four-year-old man who had been a blacksmith, a slide trombonist, a lineman, repairman and a farmer. Mf. Varner had .been a resident of Woodville and1 atone time of the article still farmed and made his own meals and preserves in his woodburning stove.
