Beard said he would vote to override Dalton’s veto, primarily because singlemember districts that may be proposed would mostly likely cross jurisdictional lines, dividing counties and other areas.

Republicans have indicated that single-member districts will help them make gains in the House, which is currently controlled by Democrats. The GOP gained eight seats this'year, for a total of 33 in the 100-member House, and hopes to make further gains through singlemember districts.
