Roof contract awarded

The School Board announced it has awarded the contract to repair the leaking roof at Rappahannock County High School to Southwest Virginia Roofing. The company will replace an 8,400 square foot area over the auditoriufn and commons area at the school with a rubber-like v material applied over insulation in 30-inch wide strips. It is similar to the material covering the classroom roofs at both county schools. The contract price is $16,860, and the contractor expects to have the job finished before the end of the year; and if the weather remains favorable, by the holiday band and choral concert on Dec. 18.

Seniors offered discounts

Two county businesses have joined the senior discount program'sponsored by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center. Faith Mountain Company in Sperryville will give seniors a 10% discount every day on all regularly priced merchandise, and Hackley's Store in Amissville will give a 10% discount every day on all non-grocery items. Seniors should request a Senior I.D. card from the RSVP office in Washington,'for information, call (703) 675-3329.

Taxes due Dec. 5

County Treasurer Frances Foster reminds residents who have not yet paid their real estate and personal property taxes that the deadline for payment is Tuesday, Dec. 5. All taxes unpaid after Dec. 5 will be assessed a 10 percent penalty. The treasurer's office will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 6. Any resident who has not received a tax bill, or has questions about their levy; should call Mrs. Foster, (703) 675-3334..The treasurer's office is open 8:30,a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Cancer Society cookbook

The American Cancer Society's popular cookbook, "Potpourri of Virginia Cooking," is now on sale through the Rappahannock Chapter of the ACS.
