With the house fully involved when the firefighters arrived, Asst. Chief Burke said all they could do was protect the surrounding outbuildings and two cars parked in the driveway near the house.
He said that sparks from the fire, which was fanned by the gusty winds which swirled around the hill crest all night, started numerous small fires in the dry brush in the fields surrounding the house, and one fire truck was required just to put out those persistent fires.
