Nash's new work

Last Minute Wood

Co. performs Dec. 8

The Last Minute Wood Company, a dance ensemble based in Rappahannock County, will perform original choreography by Sally Nash on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Rappahannock Elementary School at 8 p.m.

The program will feature three dances from the company’s repertorie and the premiere performance of Ms. Nash’s new work, “Sanskrit.”

Sally Nash — teacher, performer and choreographer — has been living in Rappahannock County for 16 years.

In 1977, she founded the Last Minute Wood Company, named in “honor of the difficulties of staying warm in a cold country winter.” She has choreographed and produced nine full-evening works for the company which has performed in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and rural Virginia. J

In 1988, her dance, “A Woman’s Work,” was performed at the Kennedy Center.

Ms. Nash’s choreography honors the individual dancer’s movements and arises out of everyday happenings in her own life. Her piece, “Box 48” brings to life the many pieces of mail that arrived in her rural mail box over a year’s time. Her choreography has been called “keenly expressionistic,” “whimsical,” and “inspired” by critics.

Recently Ms. Nash built the Workspace for Choreographers, a mountain retreat and studio outside Sperryville that is available to the dance community at large.

Tickets to the Last Minute Wood Company performance are $8.50 in advance and $10 at the door. Children under 12 are $5. Advance tickets are available at all RAAC’s regular ticket outlets, including Mountainside Market in Washington, Burke’s Grocery in Woodville, Culpeper Music and New Leaf Bookstore in Warrenton, as well as several locations.
