Rappahannock County residents have a great deal to be thankful for this Christmas season: They have the generous spirits and kind hearts of their neighbors.
Several weeks ago, the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services extended a plea to the community for food supplies and monetary donations to support the annual Christmas baskets for the needy.
In mid-December of each year, the office provides food baskets to those the office feels demonstrate a need for such supplies. Food items for the baskets are purchased through donated funds and filled with donated goods.
This year, funds were at a minimal. Food boxes were unspoken for and the picture for many needy families was bleak.
But the community answered the call and i deluged the office with everything from tea bags and toothpaste to spaghetti sauce and packaged oatmeal.
