A new middle school
We urge all interested parents and Rappahannock taxpayers to attend the public information exchange and presentation regarding the proposed middle school construction at Rappahannock High at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2.
Superintendent Dr. David Gangel, whose study^6ommittee recommended the new school, will present the baejcground information and the rationale for a middle school.
In these lean times, we suspect many in the county are reacting suspiciously to the need for a multi-million-dollar project, but the superintendent has wisely had a citizens’ group study the plan (however, committee membership was not a cross section of the county, but was dominated by school system insiders).
An opposition group is already circulating a petition against the new school, and plans to be at the Jan. 2 meeting in large numbers. They say there aren’t enough students in the school system (about 1,000 this year) to justify the new building.
A public meeting is the perfect place to put the two perspectives on the table. It should be an informative and useful forum.
