BZA approves
variance request

At last week’s meeting of the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals, a public hearing was held to discuss an application by Thomas J. Jones and Tracy A. Cubbage for a variance for their property off Route 606 in Flint Hill.
The requested variance was for a side yard setback of 50 feet to 41 feet and a rear setback of 50 feet to eight feet from the adjoining property lines to a house they plan to build on the property.
Several of Jones’ neighbors spoke in favor of the application. Only one, Howard Jones spoke against the application. Initially Howard Jones said the variance would put the house Thomas Jones intends to build too close to the Myers and Jett properties which border it. He said the houses there did not need to be “jammed together" when there are other alternatives for the placement of the house.
Gloria Myers spoke to the BZA and said she^did not object to the requested variance.
Thomas Jett also spoke saying he had “come to see what was going on and don't see any problem” if it didn't affect his sister’s property.
Howard Jones said he still thought the houses would be too close but he would not object to the application if the other neighbors were in favor of it.
The BZA proceeded with its findings and, noting that the applicant already had Health Department approval, voted unanimously in favor of the application as applied for.
