turn lane, etc. Currently, there are 31 projects on the Six-Year Plan, plus five others that head the fist as they are in the process of completion from last fiscal year (VDOTs fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30). The plan is revised each year as some projects are completed, so drop off the plan; while others may be modified , or have their priorities changed; and then there may be newly proposed projects.

This year, the public hearing on revising the Six-Year Plan and its budget for 19992000 will be held on the first Monday of either October or November at the regular 7 p.m. meeting of the county’s board of supervisors in the courthouse in Washington, Va. This is the time when the people of the county can speak out to the full board and VDOT on their requests for road improvements (add projects, drop projects, modify projects, rearrange priorities, etc.). At the public hearing, requests are heard according to district. You stand up and state your case.

Actually, this speaking out on road improvements goes on all year long. Individuals may call or write their individual district supervisor about road improvements at any time. Did you know you lived in a particular district? Many people don’t know that; nor do they know the name and phone number of the district supervisor representing them.
