There will be a band camp July 21-25 that is required by all those who will be involved in band this upcoming school year.
Band camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rappahannock County High School for rising eighth through twelfth grade band students and percussion players grades six and above.
Berk Hamer, a graduate of Shenandoah University and assistant band director of Madison County High School will assist RCHS band director Lynne Fournier with the percussion players and marching band as will Matt Yonkey, another Shenandoah University graduate and band director of Peter Muhlenberg Middle School.
The Flags Coach will be Katrina Kraft of North Stafford High School whose flag team won top honors in the state this year. Also helping out will be 2003 RCHS graduates Mike Weise and Krystal Heflin.
Camp will begin the same time each morning as Summer School to take advantage of the bus rides to school. Parents can arrange car pools for the return home.
This camp will help prepare the band for performances at football games as well as many of the marching and pep band performances the band will be involved in during the 20032004 school year,
This promises to be a wonderful experience for everyone and not so far from home. Band members please mark this date on your calendar, July 21-25 and we will see you there.
Meanwhile, the band traveled to Williamsburg, Va. for three days and two nights last month to compete with bands from 18 different states. The RCHS Band came home with three first place trophies: concert ensemble, percussion, and color guard (flags) and one second place trophy in parade performance.
This came from many hours of practice, during and after school.
The Rappahannock County High School drum line is in full swing as parade season came in with a bang. In May, they traveled to Culpeper, where they marched in the Fireman’s parade.
Although there was no category for drum line, our guys and gals had the patrons dancing in the street.
In Rappahannock at both the Sperryville and Flint Hill Fireman’s parade, they took first place.
