Back in the kitchen together again, the duo have developed a number of simple, yet flavorful dishes, using local and fresh ingredients. Some of the tavern’s signature dishes on the new menu are a baked brie with hot pepper raspberry jelly, com and crab chow'der, and fried oysters.
“My style is simple food done right. That’s what I try to do. I try not to get too crazy,” McLawhom said.
When asked how it felt to be taking the restaurant in a new direction, McLawhom said he was a bit nervous.
“But I continuously remind myself .of where I’ve come from, where I want to go, and what I want to learn,” said McLawhom.
“I want people to feel like this is their second home, where people know each other’s names and they can trust that they’re always going to have a good meal,” he said.
