“Lorin and I are overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm. For a first edition of a new festival it went beyond our expectations and hopes, both thanks to the incredibly high artistic level and thanks to the fabulous support from the community,” said Maazel’s wife. Dietlinde, who is an actress.
Over 100 volunteers joined together to assist the Maazels in making the festival a reality. Whether it be housing musicians, picking them up from the airport, or ushering during performances, they worked for free, with music in return.
“I have ushered for three operas and one orchestra performance,” said volunteer Wendi Sirat. “The orchestra performance blew me away. I was positioned in such a way as to see the Maestros’ face as he conducted. He seemed to have a way to draw the music out, collaboratively, not just conduct.”
