This inclusion in the wine list at a top restaurant promotes name recognition of Rappahannock County among an affluent nearby population and supports not only the fine wines of Gadino Cellars, but also of all county wineries. Over 75 percent of 150 guests at that dinner were from the D C. Metro area and most were fans of Chef Armstrong, an ardent supporter of local agriculture.
County Administrator John McCarthy has noted in recent meetings with the Economic Revitalization Committee that the efforts to increase our tax base need to be targeted to support our small businesses. Local sales tax and tourism tax revenue contribute to the county budget and create jobs for residents.
This is one small example of how a targeted tourism event has little impact on our quality of life, but supports our tax base. As we all enjoy the cultural and economic benefits of the Castleton music festival, a committee is also planning the next event: the Rappahannock Farm Tour which takes place the last weekend in September.
