Being there when it counts As a hospital social worker, Holly McAllister is responsible for discharge planning and patient support services. That means she helps our patients adjust to illness, addresses their .social and emotional issues, and provides referrals to community resources.
“But more importandy,” Holly says, “I’m an advocate for the patients.”
Holly’s dedication is often so heartfelt, it’s not unusual for her to stay late to comfort a lonely patient whose loved ones are too far away to visit, or to donate clothes from her own closet to help a homeless patient.
“I just look at each patient as intrinsically good,” she says. “And, hopefully, I look at each person as having different life experiences.”
Holly is also a person who thrives in a patient-centered environment.
"I’m so grateful to work in a place that honors and respects its patients. We attempt to do our best to pull together for the benefit of our patients, their families, the organization and the community.”
