Rappahannock County High School Building Trades students Cody Dodson, Nathan Grant, Tyler Shoemaker, and Taylor traveled with their teacher Scott Schlosser to Kansas City last month to compete in the Teamworks’' competition.
The Rappahannock contestants put forth a great effort to earn 22nd place in the nation.
There were 5,600 students competing in 91 contests. The keynote speaker at the awards ceremony noted that the students attending the June 23-26 conference represented the top two percent of students with trade skills.
The contest took place in the Hale Arena. Students made a presentation about how they were going to complete the given project as a team. Students then worked as a team using the given blueprints to build a model utility room that could Contain frwaSher, dryer and utility sink.
OS HA safety regulations were an important part of the contest as well. The team worked for 14 hours over a two-day period building the project. The final day was reserved for dean up of the Hale Arena as all projects and materials needed to be disassembled and organized.
The team showed pride in their accomplishments of the week. It is with great enthusiasm that we congratulate this outstanding group of students.
All contestants received prizes such as T-shirts, tools, and a Lowes’ gift card.
