I bought this book in hardback before it became an “Oprah" book and then I read it anyway, despite its celebrity-enhanced popularity.
The glowing book reviews incited mv purchase, but then the 562-page tome sat on my nightstand for weeks. I stayed home one day while antibiotics addressed a strep throat and reached for “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle" by David Wroblewski sitting nearby and promising to see me through a sick day. The book consumed me, and 1 almost stayed home a second day
I enjoyed so many layers of this novel. The setting, northernmost rural Wisconsin, offers the reader in exquisitelydetailed descriptions the joys of stretches of land on which to roam, unspoiled forests and streams, close pastures and barns, distant country stores and characters one knows as
