Supervisors Petitioned
To Reconsider
Rescinding Fire Law
Letters are being sent out from the office of the Commonwealth Attorney to members of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors petitioning that the board reconsider their action at the meeting April 5 in rescinding the brusnfire boning laws.
A delegation from the State Foiestry Office arrived Thursday morning to protest the action of tne board ip this matter and to emphasize the good that had been accomplished by the restrictions on brusn-burning to the hours 4 p.m. to midnight, March 1 to May lb.
In a 3-1 vote, the board had Noted to rescind the brush-file regulations tor Rappahannock. .J. T. Cook of Flint Hill was the one opposing vote, with W. C. Campbell’ and II. B. Wood not voting.
Since the dale of the rescinding of the l emulations, four large tires have taken place in the county: one on tne lands of Frank Kinsey, Henry Wharton and Dr. Hughes; one,on lands of Rector and \V. H. Massie near Amissville; one near Slate Milis, starting in Culpeper county; and one was repoi ted yesterday afternoon near Crest Hill.
According to Chief File Warden Raymond Johnson, this same policy was tried in Hanover county, where the hoard of supervisors rescinded the file-hours law, •amf according to a report from the Attorney General, this was not allowed. The Attorney General's opinion on the case was that after the board iiad accepted the regulations as passed by the General Assembly, the law then became a state law and could not be rescinded by the local governing body.
