Nelson Atkins, Jr,, of Flint Hill exhibited a purebred Poland-China gilt bred by himself and .won third price of $8. Unfortunately this gilt injured her hind ankle in being loaded and showed a bit tender, otherwise, according to the opinions of several out-of-state swine breeders, this gilt would hare won her class handily. This gilt, "Susie,” is out of "Brass Lady,” one of the original purebred Polands placed with Rappahannock 4-H boys by Sean, Roebuck Foundation of Atlanta, Ga. Brass Lady has produced six litters : two of eight pigs each, two of ten pigs each, one of 12, and her last, which are now suckling pigs, consisted of 13 head. A Maryland Poland China breeder plans to buy “Susie” at a satisfactory price if she gets over her lameness before Saturday, the end of the 1950 Atlantic Rural Exposition.
Should the Grand Champion Pen or Grand Champion single of •. the Junior swine department,win in the Sweepstalfe show champions. then Jacob Sisk’s hogs will be eligible to compete for the Reserve Championships in the Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes classes were judged yesterday and no report is available.
