Davis, Jr. It is reported that she said something aibout the weed having been grown outside the county and brought in, but anyway, she accepted Congressman Harrison’s gift .most graciously.
An announcement was made yesterday that William R. Shaffer, chairman of Shenandoah County Republican Committee and prominent in the 7th District Republican politics, tendered his resignation as county chairman and an-* nounced his intention to support Congressman Burr P. Harrison for re-election in the November election. —

Mrs. Thornton, the former Miss Frances Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Rodes Brown, graduated from University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1942. Following her graduation she served for nine months as night supervisor in University of Virginia hospital and medical head nurse for seven months. Mrs. Thornton did public welfare work in Rappahannock county during the summer of 1949 and taught at Woodville school from January 1949 to June

Mrs. Thornton is. the granddaughter of two of the county’s well-loved old-time “family” doctors, Dr. G. H. Brown and Dr. W. J. Smith. Mrs. Thornton was married to P. Lee Thornton, Jr., February 22, 1941, and they have one son, Philip Lee, III.
Plans for the opening of the office for the Public Health Nurse in Rappahannock county are now set for January 1, 1951, but the plans are not definite at this time.
